As one of the largest global banking institutions in the world, OCBC Malaysia had a reputation to uphold by ensuring the Menara OCBC facade and interiors were spotless. In April 2005, maclean was hired by a facilities management company as the main cleaning service for Menara OCBC but a few months later, maclean was given a letter of termination because the company wasn’t performing to standards.
The notice of termination caught maclean by surprise. To better understand the situation, the company visited Menara OCBC and found a lot of post construction debris. They also found out that the facilities management company had not properly briefed maclean; only hiring them for general cleaning to save costs when OCBC had required a specialised post construction cleaning crew.
maclean went directly to OCBC and explained the situation, requesting for 1 month to turn things around. Over the next 30 days, maclean sent over a project team to inspect and plan out the cleaning schedule for each floor to prevent any disruption to employees. maclean management also joined the cleaning crew to ensure quality of cleanliness was maintained, especially for expensive furnishing such as Italian granite, that was used throughout the common areas in the building.
At the end of the 1-month grace period, the client was happy with the results. maclean had pitched directly to the client, saving them money in the process. We were able to provide quality cleaning services that suited the size of the building without compromising our costs. As a result, we went from cleaning 1 location to maintaining the cleanliness of 10 OCBC locations full-time.
