ESG—short for Environmental, Social, and Governance—has become an essential framework for evaluating a company’s commitment to sustainability, ethical practices, and long-term value creation. It is no longer just about profitability, companies are expected to operate responsibly, contribute positively to society, and be transparent in their operations.
Environmental
The environmental aspect of ESG focuses on how a company minimizes its ecological footprint, manages resources responsibly, and takes action to address climate change. This includes reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving energy efficiency, conserving water, utilizing renewable energy, and reducing waste.
Maclean complies with the Environmental Quality Act 1974 (Amendment 2022) and holds ISO 14001:2015 certification to enhance environmental performance. Through 3R programme, we aim to reduce energy, water, and paper usage while recycling materials such as paper, plastic, and aluminium. We embrace digitalisation to cut paper consumption through the use of e-forms and e-business cards. We also promote green habits such as switching off unuse delectronics, using 100% energy-saving LED lights, and implementing a hybrid work model that reduces fuel usage, traffic congestion, emissions, and resource consumption at the office. Furthermore, we support eco-friendly products, green cleaning methods, and energy-efficient equipment. Below is one of our Green Care Performance Calculator Certificates for the green products we used in 2024.
Through the use of Green Care products, Maclean has conserved the following resources in 2024:
· 251 kg of Carbon Dioxide (CO₂) emissions prevented
· 34 kg of Plastic conserved
· 80 kg of Petroleum saved
Maclean has committed to using products with recognized environmental certifications:
1. Cradle to Cradle® Certified Products: 88% of products used (equivalent to 930 litres) carry this certification, ensuring they meet high standards for material health, recyclability, and renewable energy use.
2. Type I Ecolabel Certified Products: 100% of products used (equivalent to 1,045 litres) meet at least one Type I Ecolabel standard (ISO 14024), which is one of the most stringent environmental certifications for products.
Social
The social pillar covers labour management, employee benefits, working conditions, diversity and inclusion, workplace health and safety, staff training, and community engagement.
At Maclean, we place a strong focus on people—the core of our service delivery. We comply with the Employment Act 1955 (Amendment) 2022 and Employees’ Minimum Standard of Housing, Accommodations and Amenities Act 446 (Amendment) 2019, adhere to fair wages, social security, healthcare benefits, and responsible labour management. We embrace diversity in our hiring and offer equal opportunities for career advancement. We comply with the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 (Amendment) 2022 and certified with the ISO 45001:2018 ensuring safe and healthy working conditions across all sites. Our Training, Safety & Audit Department conducted over 1,000 training sessions in 2024, reflecting our strong commitment to environmental awareness, safety practices, and service quality. Our staff receive regular safety training on hazard prevention and risk management. We also support local communities through flood-cleaning efforts, the setup of a “Disaster Relief Fund”, and the provision of necessities to flood victims and orphans, among other initiatives.
Governance
Governance relates to a company’s leadership, business ethics, compliance practices, risk management, decision-making, transparency, and anti-bribery. Strong governance ensures that a company acts ethically, avoids corruption, and maintains the trust of its stakeholders.
At Maclean, we uphold good corporate governance as a fundamental business principle. We strictly comply with Malaysia’s Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 and Penal Code (Amendment) Act 2025. All employees are trained on Human and Labour Rights, Anti-Sexual Harassment policy, Anti-Bribery and-Corruption including corporate gifting and hospitality policies. We conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with client contracts, legal requirements, industry standards, and our ISO Integrated Management System. Our Senior Management Team reviews our policies and evaluates performance to drive continuous improvement. We conduct annual evaluation on the implementation of our policies and procedures, identify the gaps, risks and opportunities, and formulate corrective and preventive measures. These efforts reflect our commitment to creating a trusted workplace culture grounded in our core values of being reliable, responsive, and resourceful.
Overall, ESG principles guide how we operate, serve clients, support employees, and impact the environment. By integrating ESG into every level of our company, we ensure that our growth is not only profitable but also ethical, inclusive, and sustainable.
Clean Sustainably. Act Responsibly. Grow Ethically.
